Course Overview

In this guide, you will learn

  • What courses are and how to use them
  • How to get started in the course feature

What is a Course?

A Course is a structured plan of study in a specific subject. It includes all the needed assignments, lesson plans, and attachments. Once created, a course can be saved and scheduled for any date, student, or classroom as many times as needed.

Examples of Courses:

  • Biology
  • Algebra I
  • 7th Grade American History
  • World Geography
  • Greek Literature

Courses and the Assignment Calendar

  • A Course is a pre-planned set of assignments that can be scheduled.
  • The Assignment Calendar is where all assignments—whether created from a course or ad-hoc—are viewed, along with school events and classroom activities.
  • Course Plans must be created before being scheduled to the Assignment Calendar.

Getting Started in Courses

To get started using the course feature, you first create a Course Plan. Once the plan is complete, you can create Course Schedules from the plan as many times as needed.

Understanding the Difference between Course Plans & Course Schedules

Course Plan:

  • The template or blueprint for a course.
  • It includes all assignments, quizzes, tests, lesson plans, and any necessary materials.
  • Is not yet assigned to students but serves as a reusable plan that can be scheduled multiple times.

Course Schedule:

  • The active application of a Course Plan over a set date range.
  • The assignments appear on the assignment calendar and student portals.
  • Can be modified to fit the specific student or date range.
